Palm oil is one of the most important vegetable fats worldwide. In 1961 they produced only 13 million tons of palm oil about the world and in the meantime it has almost increased tenfold. The oil palm delivers two kinds of oil. On the one hand, the palm oil which is pressed from the meaty bowl of the palm nut and to the other hand the oil from the core of the nut. Palm oil from the meaty bowl of the palm nut has orange to red colour and contains a lot of vitamin A. One uses it with pleasure in the textiles and elastic industry and to the production of soap and candles. For the production of margarine and cooking fat the palm oil becomes blanched. The palm oil from the core of the nut is steady like coconut oil and colourless. This not drying oil is used for food fats, in ice cream and mayonnaise, for pastry and chocolate. One also produces soap and detergent from it.
The palm oil production has at the moment catastrophic repercussion on the environment and population. The production countries get increasingly under international pressure to change this situation. But it is impossible to solve these problems with the customary methods.
